Int Year of Sanitation

To put the spotlight on this issue the UN General Assembly declared the year 2008 the International Year of Sanitation. The goal is to raise awareness and to accelerate progress towards the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) target to reduce by half the proportion of people without access to basic sanitation by 2015. This folder contains information on Sanitation activities that are being implemented in Uganda by development Partners, NGOs, CBOs, District, Working groups and the government Ministries

FileKeeping sanitation in the international spotlight

At this year’s World Water Day (March 22) sanitation was at last given the spotlight to help catch the attention of the international community.
It is already well known that improved sanitation could prevent 1•5 million deaths from diarrhoeal illnesses a year, enhances dignity, privacy, and safety, especially for women and girls, benefits the economy-every dollar spent on sanitation generates economic benefit worth around nine more-and is better for the environment.
